In line with our commitment to inclusivity and accessibility, ROM is looking for several dedicated individuals to join our team as ROM Assistants. These pivotal roles are designed to provide personalized support to campers with disabilities or those requiring additional assistance, ensuring an inclusive and enriching camp environment for all. Our 1-on-1 support staff plays an instrumental role in accommodating campers with a range of needs, including, but not limited to, ADHD, ASD, learning disabilities, cerebral palsy, and muscular dystrophy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Thoroughly review and comprehend the individual profile of each assigned camper, followed by conducting a proactive pre-camp consultation with their caregivers to tailor the support plan effectively.
  • Proactively prepare personalized support materials daily to facilitate seamless camper integration and engagement with the camp activities.
  • Champion inclusivity within the camp group, ensuring that every camper feels valued and included in all activities and interactions.
  • Attend to the camper’s daily care routines and health support needs, including the administration of medications as required, with utmost attention to safety and well-being.
  • Vigilantly supervise campers during breaks and meal times, providing a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Collaboratively work with instructors to foster the camper's integration within the group by customizing games, activities, and explorations throughout the Museum and during field trips to accommodate individual needs.
  • Competently utilize adaptive equipment, when necessary, ensuring its safe and effective application to enhance the camper's experience and participation.
  • Exemplify positive behaviour and act as a role model for campers, instilling values of respect, empathy, and cooperation.
  • Maintain a consistently friendly and courteous demeanour towards caregivers and children, fostering a welcoming and supportive camp environment.
  • Regularly communicate with caregivers, providing insightful updates on the camper's experiences, achievements, and moments of joy at camp.
  • Be adaptable and ready to take on additional responsibilities to support the camp's mission and enhance the camper's experience.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Candidates must have a minimum of one year of experience working with children in educational or camp settings and demonstrate a proven ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Eligibility for the role requires candidates to be at least 16 years of age by the commencement of their contract, ensuring readiness and responsibility.
  • Strongly preferred qualifications include:
  • An educational background in fields related to the Museum's focus, such as Art, Archaeology, Life Sciences, Earth Sciences, or History, enriching the camp's educational content.
  • Hands-on experience supporting children with disabilities, including physical disabilities and neurodivergence, to ensure an inclusive environment for all campers.
  • Certifications in coaching or lifeguarding, adding valuable skills that enhance safety and engagement in physical activities.
  • First Aid and CPR certifications, equipping staff with the essential skills to ensure the health and safety of all campers.

Additionally, all applicants are required to undergo a Vulnerable Sector Screening, a necessary procedure for those intending to work with children or vulnerable individuals. This screening is crucial to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all camp participants.
