ROM is in search of committed individuals eager to take on a pivotal role within our esteemed ROM Summer Club program. This is your chance to be part of a tradition of excellence, bringing unforgettable learning experiences to life for our campers in one of the world’s leading museums.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Craft and strategize course content, tailoring it to align with the given descriptions and directives. Create a comprehensive course plan that details all lessons, establishes learning objectives, and integrates themed activities.
  • Design lessons and activities that embrace 21st-century learning strategies and global competencies, ensuring a forward-thinking educational approach.
  • Formulate and deliver lessons that are engaging, inclusive, and centred around diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion (DEAI) principles.
  • Identify and accommodate the diverse learning styles of campers, including the provision of necessary accessibility supports.
  • Prepare detailed day-by-day descriptions of the camp activities and learning outcomes for caregivers, enhancing transparency and engagement.
  • Adhere strictly to established procedures and protocols concerning daily schedules, routines, and the overall care of campers.
  • Efficiently manage camper behaviour to ensure a safe, respectful, and enjoyable educational environment for all participants.
  • Integrate inquiry-based (Socratic) and experiential learning techniques into lessons, utilizing museum specimens, artifacts, and objects to enrich the educational experience.
  • Guarantee the safety and appropriate handling of all museum materials and specimens during lessons and activities.
  • Oversee and direct assigned assistants, fostering a collaborative and efficient team environment.
  • Offer constructive feedback to volunteers and assistants, contributing to their professional growth and the overall improvement of the program.
  • Serve as an additional point of contact for caregivers, addressing any significant concerns and maintaining open lines of communication to support the camper's well-being.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Candidates must possess a Post-Secondary degree or its equivalent in a discipline related to museum studies, such as art, culture, history, or natural sciences. This provides a solid foundation for creating engaging educational content.
  • A minimum of three years of experience instructing children within educational or camp settings is required, showcasing a track record of effective teaching and engagement.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities are essential, enabling precise and positive interactions with campers, staff, and caregivers.
  • Strong skills in resolving conflicts are necessary to ensure a harmonious and safe learning environment for all participants.
  • A robust understanding of effective behavior and classroom management techniques, crucial for maintaining an organized and conducive learning atmosphere.
  • Formal teaching qualifications and certifications in First Aid/CPR are highly desirable, enhancing the candidate's readiness to address educational and safety needs.
  • Experience or education in the following areas will be considered valuable: science communication, early childhood education, film/video production, photography, ceramics, or leadership. These skills contribute to the program's diversity and enrich the campers' learning experience.
