WHO WE NEED

We are seeking an AV Technician & Media Production Assistant to support audiovisual operations and media production initiatives across the museum.

Reporting to the Manager, Media Productions, this role is responsible for maintaining and supporting audiovisual systems across exhibitions, galleries, public venues, and events, while also assisting with media production workflows and digital asset management.

The successful candidate will help ensure audiovisual experiences operate reliably and effectively while supporting the creation, organization, and delivery of media content for exhibitions, programming, and institutional initiatives.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, and support audiovisual systems throughout exhibitions, galleries, and public spaces
  • Assist with the installation, configuration, testing, and decommissioning of audiovisual equipment, including projectors, displays, audio systems, media players, and interactive technologies
  • Provide technical support for museum events, programs, meetings, performances, and venue rentals
  • Conduct routine system checks, identify technical issues, and coordinate repairs or maintenance to minimize downtime
  • Maintain accurate inventories, usage logs, and documentation for audiovisual equipment and systems
  • Support media production projects through equipment preparation, on-location capture assistance, lighting and audio support, and data management
  • Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, vendors, and presenters to ensure successful delivery of exhibitions, installations, and events
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of AV operations, media workflows, and documentation practices


WHAT YOU BRING

  • Completion of a two-year college diploma in multimedia production, audio engineering, audiovisual technology, technical theatre, broadcasting, media production, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2–3 years of experience supporting audiovisual systems, media production, live events, or technical production environments
  • Working knowledge of audiovisual hardware, including projectors, displays, touchscreens, audio systems, media players, videowalls, and related technologies
  • Experience troubleshooting AV systems and supporting show control, playback, or control software
  • Foundational knowledge of video, audio, and media production workflows, including equipment setup, file management, ingest, and delivery
  • Experience supporting video and audio capture in studio, gallery, event, or production environments
  • Familiarity with media asset management, file organization, digital archives, and naming conventions
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with PC and Mac operating systems and Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple requests and work effectively in fast-paced environments
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to regularly work evenings and weekends to support exhibitions, installations, and events
  • Ability to lift and move equipment, work at heights when required, and remain standing for extended periods during installations and event support

  • EXPECTED COMPENSATION: $28.09 - $32.09 hourly
  • SCHEDULE: Up to 24 hours weekly

Depending on the position, you might also be given a tour of ROM and receive a preview of your responsibilities and interactions.
  3. Third Interview (if required): a final interview with key stakeholders.
